In my future STEM career, I hope to become an advocate within the medical community for marginalized communities and serve as a mentor to encourage more minority students to pursue STEM.

WHAT ATTRACTED YOU TO THE CSS PROGRAM AND CAROLINA?

The vast number of research opportunities provided alongside the commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion were some of the main things that attracted me to CSS. I also was drawn to the sense of community that CSS provides in addition to the ways the program will help me be successful during my time at Carolina and beyond.

WHAT ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO EXPERIENCING AT CAROLINA OVER THE NEXT FOUR YEARS?

Over the next four years, I am looking forward to participating in research, getting involved on campus through various clubs/organizations, and meeting new people. I also am excited to go to different sporting events.

WHAT RESEARCH TOPIC(S) ARE YOU INTERESTED IN EXPLORING AND WHY?

One research topic I hope to explore is toxicology. Through toxicology, I hope to look into the human health impact of chemical exposures; one I am most interested in is Perfluoroalkyl and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAs). I have an interest in learning about long-term health issues that can arise from various chemical exposures and hope to research effective treatments and ways to minimize health impacts.

WHAT IS ONE THING YOU HOPE TO ACCOMPLISH IN YOUR FUTURE STEM CAREER?

I have a strong interest in community health, especially among minority populations and I hope to one day be able to work directly with patients while also having a positive impact on the health of individuals on a larger scale. In my future STEM career, I hope to become an advocate within the medical community for marginalized communities and serve as a mentor to encourage more minority students to pursue STEM.
