How to Apply

To be considered for the Chancellor’s Science Scholars Program, interested high school seniors of all backgrounds must apply to Carolina by the October 15th Early Action application deadline. Simply fill out the Excel@Carolina survey found in the Common Application’s UNC supplement, and select Chancellor’s Science Scholars as one of your choices.
CSS scholars bring with them a wealth of diverse backgrounds and accomplishments, along with impressive academic achievements.

Finalists will be selected based on academic excellence, demonstrated interest in STEM programs and careers, commitment to diversity and inclusion, leadership, and community involvement. If you are chosen as a finalist, we will invite you to answer two additional short-answer questions and to join us on campus in late February for Selection Weekend, where you will learn more about the CSS program and interview with Carolina faculty and staff. Final decisions will be sent via email approximately two weeks after Selection Weekend.

Our next Selection Weekend – February 19-20, 2021 – will be entirely virtual. On Friday, finalists will join us via Zoom from 7:00-9:00 pm ET for an overview of the CSS program and fun small-group activities designed to help you get to know your fellow finalists and current CSS scholars. On Saturday, live virtual events will run from 1:00-4:30 pm ET and include an interview with Carolina faculty and staff, opportunities to learn about research and student life at Carolina from panels of current scholars, and inspirational advice from the Dean of UNC’s Graduate School. Several breaks will be incorporated into the schedule to allow you to step away from your screen.
