“I joined CSS because they value a sense of family, making it more than just a scholarship
WHAT ATTRACTED YOU TO THE CSS PROGRAM AND CAROLINA?
I joined CSS because they value a sense of family, making it more than just a scholarship. At any moment, I have a team by my side wanting to see me succeed and reach my full potential. Additionally, Carolina provides me with an endless support system through academics and athletics, and the opportunity to work alongside world-class research professors on exciting topics is second to none.
WHAT ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO EXPERIENCING AT CAROLINA OVER THE NEXT FOUR YEARS?
I look forward to setting a high standard for student-athletes like myself to succeed on and off the track, court, and field while inspiring others through athletics and academics. I’m also excited to work with peers who have different thought processes and backgrounds than my own; this is imperative to progress my knowledge in my respective field of study and challenge my previous ways of thinking. Last but not least, rushing Franklin Street after UNC beats Duke.
WHAT RESEARCH TOPIC(S) ARE YOU INTERESTED IN EXPLORING AND WHY?
While many areas of computer science interest me, I’m particularly interested in applying artificial intelligence to address some of society’s immense challenges. AI and machine learning models can revolutionize untapped industries like our education system, further changing the landscape of how students learn.
WHAT IS ONE THING YOU HOPE TO ACCOMPLISH IN YOUR FUTURE STEM CAREER?
Beyond securing a cool job, my main goal for the future of my STEM career is to provide a platform for underrepresented groups to explore their STEM interests. When I built my first computer, I knew I wanted to pursue computer science. Unfortunately, many kids do not have access to STEM resources, leaving bright minds and future innovation on the table.
