While there are many places I may go with my science education, I hope for my future work in a STEM career to be pivotal in ensuring the health and lengthening the lives of those disadvantaged communities that need it most, especially in developing countries.

WHAT ATTRACTED YOU TO THE CSS PROGRAM AND CAROLINA?

I chose CSS and UNC because I wanted to be a part of a diverse, like-minded group of scholars and future scientists who are truly passionate about the projects, initiatives, and communities they play a role in. Additionally, coming from the arid metropolis that is Phoenix, Arizona, I love how connected UNC’s main campus is with nature.

WHAT ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO EXPERIENCING AT CAROLINA OVER THE NEXT FOUR YEARS?

I am most looking forward to engaging in academic experiences outside of the classroom, including wet lab research, internships, study abroad, and the many other opportunities that will come my way throughout college.

WHAT RESEARCH TOPIC(S) ARE YOU INTERESTED IN EXPLORING AND WHY?

I am most interested in exploring the field of biochemistry since there is such a great abundance of avenues I could follow within it. I also intend to explore infectious disease research since accomplishments within the field often benefit disadvantaged communities in a manner that promotes upward social and economic mobility.

WHAT IS ONE THING YOU HOPE TO ACCOMPLISH IN YOUR FUTURE STEM CAREER?

While there are many places I may go with my science education, I hope for my future work in a STEM career to be pivotal in ensuring the health and lengthening the lives of those disadvantaged communities that need it most, especially in developing countries.
