WHAT ATTRACTED YOU TO THE CSS PROGRAM AND CAROLINA?

In the CSS community, the pursuit of excellence is steadfast, and I know that this environment of relentless rigor, passion, hard work, and discipline will carry us to great heights. My cohort members constantly inspire me—together we’ve built an uplifting community of leaders, scientists, and change makers, that are just as committed to the success of those around them as they are their own.

WHAT ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO EXPERIENCING AT CAROLINA OVER THE NEXT FOUR YEARS?

I am excited to delve into the arts at Carolina just as much as the sciences. I can’t wait to join student groups and find clubs that spark new passions as well as cultivate existing ones.

WHAT RESEARCH TOPIC(S) ARE YOU INTERESTED IN EXPLORING AND WHY?

My overarching interest in medicine began early on after witnessing the impacts of chronic disease in my family and community.
I will be continuing my work at the Sekelsky lab using genetic engineering and molecular cloning to unlock fundamental insights into the pathophysiology of cancer and cell genetics. Additionally, I want to explore the treatment of chronic disease (drug delivery and design) through biochemistry and polymer chemistry applications. My passion for environmental science began in middle school when I learned more about the pressing issues of climate change. I was committed to finding solutions to tackle the lack of viable renewable energy resources. I hope to continue my research in green energy synthesis, using chemistry and nanotechnology to improve the efficiency and yield of biofuel.

WHAT IS ONE THING YOU HOPE TO ACCOMPLISH IN YOUR FUTURE STEM CAREER?

I hope to create an everlasting impact on the world around me through research, entrepreneurship, and service in STEM. I would love to start my own company and be a leading professional in the field, contributing innovative solutions to tackle leading global issues.
