Dr. Gaudier-Diaz serves as the director of the Chancellor’s Science Scholars Program. She completed a B.S. in Biology at the University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez and a Ph.D. in Neuroscience at the Ohio State University. Prior to completing her graduate education, Monica participated in the Discovery Postbaccalaureate Research Education Program. Once completing her Ph.D., she moved to North Carolina for the Seeding Postdoctoral Innovators in Research & Education (SPIRE) Program. During her postdoc, she worked in the Carolina Social Neuroscience and Health Lab and taught several courses at North Carolina Central University. Following her postdoc, Dr. Gaudier-Diaz joined the Psychology & Neuroscience faculty at UNC-Chapel Hill to teach introductory and upper-level neuroscience courses. In the classroom, she strives to integrate research and teaching, which has been shown to facilitate retention and success within STEM fields. Besides teaching and having students engage in scientific research, Dr. Gaudier-Diaz enjoys mentoring undergraduates, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows. As a Latina woman in science, she strives to support the diverse student body at Carolina by serving as a role model, advising and mentoring students, and getting involved in diversity and inclusion initiatives on campus and beyond.
