“I have not had any exposure to research during my high school years, so CSS has given me the ability to talk to people who have done research and begin exploring what I would like to do during my time at UNC.
WHAT DREW YOU TO THE CSS PROGRAM?
As a minority with a passion in STEM, a community of individuals who also wanted to increase representations of all minorities in STEM fields is what drew me first. While we all have those shared values, I was excited to meet people so different in experiences and thinking. I also loved how supportive the CSS community seemed and I wanted to contribute to and be a part of that.
WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR FAVORITE CSS EXPERIENCE SO FAR?
My favorite CSS experience so far has been getting to know my fellow cohort members over summer EXCELerator. I enjoyed listening to everyone’s thoughts during argument & debate discussions, getting to know my debate team members, learning about everyone’s research, watching movies, playing scribble, and just talking.
HOW HAS CSS SHAPED YOUR CAREER GOALS?
I did not have any exposure to research during my high school years, so CSS has given me the ability to talk to people who have done research and begin exploring what I would like to do during my time at UNC. During Summer EXCELerator, we were given the opportunity to learn about many different labs on campus. I have started to learn what research is and the types of research I would be interested in pursuing.
WHAT IS YOUR PRIMARY RESEARCH INTEREST?
I am currently interested in regenerative medicine or biomedical microdevice research.
