WHAT ATTRACTED YOU TO THE CSS PROGRAM AND CAROLINA?

I’m drawn to the CSS program and Carolina because it offers not just financial support and research opportunities, but also a nurturing community where I can truly thrive as a first-generation Latina pursuing an MD-PhD. The Summer EXCELerator program and intensive advising will be a lifeline, helping me overcome barriers and achieve my dreams. Most importantly, the close-knit cohort of like-minded peers will provide the emotional and collaborative support I need to turn my aspirations into reality.

WHAT ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO EXPERIENCING AT CAROLINA OVER THE NEXT FOUR YEARS?

I am most looking forward to joining a research lab that piques my interest in skin biochemistry, while also joining clubs and going to school spirit activities on campus to make the most of my time here at UNC.

WHAT RESEARCH TOPIC(S) ARE YOU INTERESTED IN EXPLORING AND WHY?

I am particularly interested in exploring research topics related to skin biochemistry and physiology. My interest lies in understanding the intricate biochemical processes of the skin, including its structure, function, and response to external factors.

WHAT IS ONE THING YOU HOPE TO ACCOMPLISH IN YOUR FUTURE STEM CAREER?

One of the primary accomplishments I hope to achieve in my future STEM career is to drive progress in dermatological research while addressing health disparities in underserved communities. By combining my passion for dermatology with a commitment to social justice, I aspire to make a lasting impact on both scientific advancement and equitable healthcare.
