Research Interest: The genetic basis for diabetes

Summer EXCELerator created such strong bonds between all of us in the cohort and helped me feel extremely prepared for my first semester at UNC.

WHAT DREW YOU TO THE CSS PROGRAM?

The idea of being surrounded by so many others who were as passionate about STEM as I am and having a strong support system to rely on when things get difficult. I was also very interested in the ability to enter my freshman year with a group of people who I could trust.

WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR FAVORITE CSS EXPERIENCE SO FAR?

Summer EXCELerator created such strong bonds between all of us in the cohort and helped me feel extremely prepared for my first semester at UNC.

HOW HAS CSS SHAPED YOUR CAREER GOALS?

I always knew that I wanted to go into research, but CSS helped show me that it was a viable path that I would be able to achieve. It also introduced me to the idea of getting a PhD in order to further my knowledge.

WHAT IS YOUR PRIMARY RESEARCH INTEREST?

As part of the Mohlke Lab in UNC’s Department of Genetics I am exploring the genetic basis for diabetes, and I am super excited to expand my knowledge of working in a lab!
