Two CSS Scholars Win Chancellor’s Awards

Two Chancellor’s Science Scholars received prestigious campus-wide awards at the Chancellor’s Awards Ceremony on April 16, 20219.

Kristen Gardner(CSS 3, UNC ’19) received the 2019 Venable Medal, awarded for outstanding academic work, character, and outstanding contributions to the university community and to chemistry. Each year, the Rho Chapter of the Alpha Chi Sigma professional chemistry fraternity awards two Venable Medals to outstanding seniors majoring in chemistry. Kristen is from Charlotte, NC.

Sweta Karlekar (CSS 4, UNC ’20) received the 2019 Ernest A. Abernathy Prize in Student Publications, awarded annually to the undergraduate judged by a special committee to have done the most distinctive work during the current year in the field of student publications. Sweta, a junior from Ashburn, VA, is majoring in computer science with a minor in entrepreneurship.
