CSS Scholar Selected for 2019 NSF GRFP Award

Two CSS scholars have been recognized by the NSF for outstanding research potential in graduate school and beyond.

Keshav Patel (CSS 3, UNC ’19) has been selected as a Fellow for the 2019 NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP). Patel, a senior from Cary, NC, has a double major in biomedical engineering and mathematics. He plans to pursue a Ph.D. in mathematics at the University of Utah where he will study mathematical biology.

Kristen Gardner (CSS 3, UNC ’19) received an Honorable Mention. Gardner is a senior from Charlotte, NC, majoring in chemistry. She plans to attend the University of California at Berkeley for her doctoral studies in chemistry.

The NSF GRFP recognizes and supports outstanding graduate students in NSF-supported STEM disciplines who are pursuing research-based master’s and doctoral degrees at accredited U.S. institutions. The five-year fellowship includes three years of financial support as well as access to opportunities for professional development available to NSF-supported graduate students.
