Generous Donations Increase CSS Endowment

February 7, 2019

CSS is pleased to announce its receipt of two generous donations, which will help sustain the program’s efforts to recruit and support talented STEM students at Carolina.

The Sherman Fairchild Foundation gave the CSS program $10 million, while the William R. Kenan, Jr. Charitable Trust pledged a $5 million gift, provided the University raises an additional $10 million in matching gifts by the end of 2023.

William McLean, a UNC-Chapel Hill alumnus and representative for the Sherman Fairchild Foundation, was on hand for that organization’s gift announcement at the UNC-NC State men’s basketball game on February 5th. CSS executive director Dr. Thomas Freeman and several current scholars were able to join him on court for the announcement.
